Cleared Highway 51 property to be electric substation

  • Friday, March 21, 2014

The large tract of land that has been cleared on Highway 51 - Browns Ferry Road - near the Georgetown County YMCA has been the source of social media speculation.

Some have guessed it was going to be a skating rink, others say a church or a store.

According to Georgetown County Planning Director Boyd Johnson, the property will be the site of transformers as part of a new Santee Electric Cooperative substation which has been in the plans for several years.

Johnson said now that the land has been cleared, he expects that work to quickly take place.
