A man is in custody today after what started as a domestic dispute turned into a roughly five-hour standoff with Horry County police officers.
Early Monday morning officers were called to a condominium near the Garden City Connector and U.S. 17 bypass with a report that a man was holding a woman against her will, said Lt. Robert Kegler, Horry County Police spokesman.
He said that officers tried to establish contact with the man, who has not been identified, but were initially unsuccessful.
Kegler said that once contact was established, negotiators were able to talk the man into coming out of the condo, and the man and a woman left the building about 9:15 a.m.
The woman was being treated for unspecified injuries.
Among the first responders at the scene was an ambulance from the Murrells Inlet Garden City Beach Fire and Rescue.
Capt. Rodney Jewett said that the ambulance was standing by at the scene in case it was needed.
The ambulance returned to the station about 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
