Pawleys Island Christian Academy had a team of middle school students win second place in the state at The Battle of the Books. Quiz teams from schools all over the state competed, answering questions from a list of 10 books that was given out earlier in the year. Team members read two to three books each and six members from each team were allowed on stage at a time, and some members changed out during new rounds. There were 15 rounds. Four teams advanced to the semi finals. The PICA team won the semi-finals and there was a run-off between two teams to see who PICA would compete against for the finals. Scores were reset, and PICA lost the final competition, to place second in the state. The event was held at Thomas Sumter Academy in Rembert.
