A.C. Flora beat Summerville 5-2 on Sunday to win the 24th annual International Baseball Classic at Mike Johnson Park in Georgetown.

The Falcons won the Class AAA state title last season.

Weather wreaked havoc with the schedule, canceling all the games on Thursday, and allowing only four games to be played on Friday.

The sun came out for the weekend and the games played on.

“It was a great experience,” said first-year Georgetown coach Ben Waddle. “We were able to fight the elements but we still got [the games] in.”

Georgetown lost its first three games of the tournament before rallying on Sunday to beat Dorman, Waddle’s former team.

The Bulldogs were only trailing A.C. Flora 3-5 in the fifth inning on Friday when the Falcons rallied for five runs and the 8-2 victory.

“First game kind of got away from us,” Waddle said.

Seth Wall, Ryan Holcombe, Brandon Cribb and Brandon McCants all had hits for the Bulldogs.

Cody Thompson took the loss.

Greenville jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Georgetown on Saturday, before an RBI single by Woody Woodall and a sacrifice by McCants.

Wall, Holcombe, Ryan Williams and Riley Jordan also had hits for the Bulldogs.

Alex Hughes took the loss.

McCants drove in Woodall for Georgetown’s only run in a 2-1 loss to Belton Honea-Path. A two-run home run gave the Bears the victory.

Holcombe took the loss.

Jordan had three hits and scored two runs to lead Georgetown to a 3-2 victory over Dorman on Sunday.

Holcombe and Wall had RBIs.

Williams got the win and Woodall got the save.

Waddle called the win over his former team, “bittersweet.”

“I was with some of those kids for five years.”

He was pleased with his current team’s performance.

“Each game we improved,” he said. “These guys are in the top five in the state and we’re not there yet.”
