An elderly Andrews man was killed after being struck by a truck early Thursday morning.
Williamsburg County Deputy Coroner William Horton identified the victim as 89-year-old Eddie Shackelford.
S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said Shackelford was lying in the road on Highway 521 Bypass, in front of the Andrews Dialysis Center, at about 5:55 a.m. Thursday when he was struck by a 2008 Ford service truck.
It is unknown why Shackelford was in the road.
Horton said it's believed he was walking to a store to get his morning coffee. He said an autopsy will be conducted to determine if Shackelford suffered a medical issue and to determine if he was deceased before being hit by the truck. Collins said no charges will be filed against the driver of the truck.
