What’s Coming? What’s Going?

Land is being prepared for a new Verizon store along U.S. Highway 701/North Fraser Street.

Big changes are coming to the intersection of Highway 701 and Anthuan Maybank Drive. Fred's department store has announced it is closing its Georgetown location. No date has been announced for the closing but a sale began this week to sell the merchandise in the store.

At the same time — across Anthuan Maybank Drive — work has begun on a new Verizon phone center, according to Georgetown City planner Rick Martin. He said the new Verizon Center — which will be located straight across from rival AT&T — will have more parking and easier access than the current location on the Church Street Frontage Road.
