Couple charged with murder in Heather Elvis case

Tammy and Sidney Moorer arrested Friday on a warrant stemming from the Heather Elvis case were charged with murder today.

The announcement of the charges was made by Horry County Police chief Sandra Rhodes at a press conference in M.L. Brown Jr. Public Safety Facility Conway.

The charges are based on evidence found during the execution of the search warrant of the Moorerís home at 8786 SC 814, about 12 miles northwest of Garden City.

Both Morrers have attorneys and there is no indication whether the couple will cooperate with officials.

The couple was charged Sunday with two counts of indecent exposure and one count of obstruction of justice.

Bail was set at $5,000 for Tammy Lorinda Moorer, 41, of Myrtle Beach on each of the indecent exposure charges and $10,000 in pretrial for the obstruction of justice charge.

Bail also was set for her husband, Sidney St. Clair Moorer, 38, on the same charges.

Each of the indecent exposure charges was $5,000 bail and the obstruction of justice charge was set at $10,000. As of Saturday afternoon, the two remained incarcerated in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

A posting on the Horry County Police Departmentís Facebook page said additional charges for the pair were pending.

The two were arrested Friday on a warrant executed by officials from the Horry County Police Department, the State Law Enforcement Division, the 15th Circuit Solicitorís Office, the U.S. Marshalís Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol at the coupleís home.

Elvis, 20, was last heard from in the early morning hours of Dec. 18.

Her car was found in Socastee the following day.

Since that time, volunteers have held vigils and searched the area on numerous occasions, but no trace of the young woman has been found.
