Local residents graduate from Clemson University

CLEMSON Ė Local residents graduated from Clemson University Dec. 19, 2013.

They are:

Mc Clellanville: Pamela Koelling Morrison.

Murrells Inlet: Sarah Frances Bailey and Hannah Elizabeth Nuckles.

Pawleys Island: Richard Sanders Chapman and Katherine Sparkman Heyward.

They were among more than 1,100 students who received degrees from President James F. Barker, who presided over his final graduation ceremony before stepping down after 14 years at the helm of the university.

Murrells Inlet student makes the Deanís List at Gonzaga University

SPOKANE, WA Ė Emily Klugh, a resident of Murrells Inlet has earned placement on the Gonzaga University Deanís List for fall semester 2013. Students must earn a 3.5 to 3.69 grade-point average to be listed.

Gonzaga University is a humanistic, private Catholic University providing a Jesuit education to more than 7,500 students. Situated along the Spokane River near downtown Spokane, Wash., Gonzaga is routinely recognized among the Westís best comprehensive regional universities.

Wofford students study abroad during interim 2014

SPARTANBURG Ė Woffordís interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. More than 200 students chose to study abroad during Interim 2014. Area students that studied abroad included:

Cayla Eddy, class of 2014, is from Pawleys Island. Eddy studied abroad in Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, France and Czechoslovakia.

Ian Sally, class of 2017, is from Murrells Inlet. Sally studied abroad in Namibia and South Africa.

John Sally, class of 2014, is from Murrells Inlet. Sally studied abroad in Namibia and South Africa.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,600 students in Spartanburg. Wofford is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Furman University Fall Deanís List

Greenville Ė Riley McCallus and Joshua Richmond are included on the deanís list for the 2013 fall semester at Furman University. Furmanís deanís list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.

Furman is a private, undergraduate liberal arts college of 2,600 students in Greenville. Widely recognized for its rigorous academic program and strong faculty, the university has a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and ranks among the nationís top colleges in the number of National Merit Scholars enrolled.

Academic honor student recognized for 2013 Fall Semester

GREENWOOD Ė Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2013 fall semester have earned inclusion on the Merit List. The Merit List recognizes students who are registered for 6-11 credit hours and have earned term GPAs of 3.75 or higher.

The Merit List student from Georgetown County is Cindy R. Marshall of Andrews.
