Power still out for thousands

Georgetown County schools remain closed today as thousands across the county remain without electricity.

As of 7 a.m., 11,193 Santee Electric Cooperative customers in Georgetown County were still without electricity. Most lost power early Wednesday.

Santee Cooper reports 1,767 customers without power between Pawleys Island and Surfside Beach.

Duke Power, which services a portion of the Andrews area had 1,726 customers in Georgetown County without electricity.

Crews from all the power companies have had workers out all night trying to restore electricity as soon as possible.

Adding to the situation, trees continued ton fall throughout the night.

No timetable has been given for power restoration but in some cases it could take days.

Georgetown County firefighters began an assessment of the county this morning. They are out looking for damaged houses, impassable roads and downed power lines.
