Governor issues state of emergency

  • Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Governor Nikki Haley has declared a State of Emergency due to the forecasted winter weather.

Temperatures are expected to go below freezing, potentially making road conditions hazardous which could impact the safety and well being of South Carolinians.

Additional assistance is expected for stranded motorists and medical emergencies. Preparations are underway for emergency crews to be ready to assist with road debris and downed power lines from the storm.

Governor Nikki Haley has also ordered South Carolina National Guard on state active duty and will be available to assist first responders and state agencies if necessary.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation has crews salting roads throughout the state. Conditions on many roadways are expected to be extremely hazardous due to ice. You are urged not to drive unless absolutely necessary.
