A fire was reported inside a conveyor elevator at International Paper Co. at about 11 p.m. Friday. Firefighters had a hard time with the fire because it is reportedly about 90 feet off the ground. It took more than three hours to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries. Georgetown County Assistant Fire Chief Tony Hucks said wood chips on the enclosed conveyor belt caught fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Georgetown County firefighters were called to assist the company's own firefighters. At about 12:30 a.m. additional county fire personnel were called to the scene. Georgetown City Fire and Midway Fire Rescue also helped.
