The search for a boater missing from the Sampit River intensified today after clothing believed to belong to him was found.

Keith Edward Sullivan, 45, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina was reported missing Wednesday, according to Georgetown County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson.

Sullivan's sailboat, named Saga, remained empty near the Harborwalk boardwalk Friday afternoon, two day after he was reported missing.

Cuthbertson said the Sheriff's Office has utilized a plane, helicopter, marine patrol units, side scan sonar, and personnel in the search for Sullivan.

Cuthbertson said articles of clothing, similar to those described as being worn by Sullivan, were found on Goat Island at the mouth of the Sampit River Friday morning. That is when the Department of Natural Resources joined the search.

“Goat Island is being searched by boat and aircraft with the intentions of locating Mr. Sullivan,” Cuthbertson said.

Sullivan was last seen Sunday by some friends from Canada, who were also visiting the area, said Chris Carroll, manager of Harborwalk Marina on Front Street.

Anyone who has any information regarding Mr. Sullivan is urged to call the Georgetown County heriff's Office at (843) 546-5101.
