Chris Sokoloski/Times Georgetown High’s Eric Techer, wrestling against St. James, picked up pins against Cross and Military Magnet last week.

Waccamaw High’s wrestling team beat Conway 54-21 on Wednesday night.

Warriors coach Scott Cook was happy with the win, but stressed that the Tigers squad was missing six wreslters due to sickness or injury.

“I told [the Conway coach] I hate it because it ended up being lopsided. … But you still have to go out and wrestle who’s there,” Cook said.

Waccamaw raced out to a 30-0 lead.

Arman Singh, McKinley Groomes, Connor Summer and Parker Williams all got pins and Shea Burke won on points.

After Conway got on the board with a win on points, the teams traded forfeits.

Tyler Davis then got a pin to extend the Waccamaw lead to 42-15.

Conway got a pin to cut the lead to 52-21, and then Gabe Pope got a pin and Bobby Walters won by forfeit for the 54-21 final.

It was sweet revenge for the Warriors, who lost to Conway 42-36 last week.

“I’ve got some guys that are wrestling well,” Cook said. “Everybody’s just trying to stay healthy going into the playoffs. That’s the main things.

Georgetown lost to region rivals St. James and North Myrtle Beach last week, and beat Cross and Military Magnet.

Eric Techer had two pins, and Nick Cooper, Dalton Ethridge, Jarrett Huneault, Al Mazone and Gerald German had one pin each.

Varsity wrestlers from Waccamaw and Georgetown will compete in the Horry/Georgetown Invitational at St. James High School on Saturday.

The Warriors will then host the Bulldogs in a tri-match on Wednesday that will also feature Loris. The match starts at 6 p.m.
