Socastee takes third at Palmetto State Classic

Photos by Chris Sokoloski / INLET OUTLOOK Socastee’s Justin Knipper, wrestling against Georgetown earlier this season, won his weight class at the Palmetto State Classic Wrestling Tournament over the weekend.


Socastee High wrestlers Justin Knipper and Joe Smolenski both won their weight classes to help the Braves to a third-place finish at the Palmetto State Classic Wrestling Tournament in Irmo over the weekend.

Knipper won a decision at 126 pounds and and Smolenski won a decision at 220.

Other top finishers for Socastee were: Kyle Burton, second at 285; Quin Gammon, third at 113, and Logan Gammon, third at 132.

Socastee finished third in the team competition with 228 points. Wando (276 points) won the event and Chapin (251) was runner-up.

Other Socastee results: Jordan Hodge, fourth at 138; Sam McKinney, fourth at 145; John Leggett, fourth at 152; Brandon Rodgers, fifth at 113; Brad Meleneskyy, fifth at 138; Aydin Imani, fifth at 182; Dylan Martin, sixth at 120; Patrick Powalie, seventh at 132; and William Morin, eighth at 160.
