James Hancock Jr.
James William “Bill” Hancock Jr. of Pineville, NC died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 3 p.m. at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. Barry Dagenhart and Rev. Philip Bunch officiating.
The committal service will be Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, SC.
Visitation for Mr. Hancock will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Mr. Hancock was a native of Greenwood, SC and the son of the late James William and Ada Chastain Hancock.
He was a graduate of Clemson University where he was a member of the Numeral Society. He was an officer in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.
Upon his return from war, Mr. Hancock graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He opened his law practice in Rock Hill in 1979 and has remained an active member of the American Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association and the York County Bar Association.
He was a member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and previously served as President of the congregation. He was an avid golfer and member of the Rock Hill Country Club. An active member of the IPTAY Association, his love of sports was evident with his passion for the Clemson Tigers.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #34 and of the Belle Isle Yacht Club in Georgetown, SC.
Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife, Frances C. Hancock of the home; his son, James W. Hancock, III and his wife, Kristy of Chester, SC; his daughter, Deanna Katherine Smith of Blair, SC; his sister, Dr. S. Anne Hancock of Greenwood, SC; his aunt, Lee Mulligan of Spartanburg, SC; his cousin, Norma Hopkins of Greenwood, SC; two grandchildren, James Cole Hancock and Justice Lee Hancock.

Clarice Elizabeth “Betty” Strong, 85, of Andrews, wife of Jack “Cuz” Strong, Sr., died Friday, January 3, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Strong was born March 7, 1928, in Salisbury, Vermont, a daughter of the late Hugh Grant Leonard and Marion Sara Dyer Leonard Otis.
She was a US Air Force veteran and was retired from Farmers Telephone.
Mrs. Strong was a member of Suttons United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Seeman and Phyllis Billings.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Jack Wallace “Cuz” Strong, Sr., of Andrews, are three sons, Michael Jay Strong, of Manning, Jack Randall (Jennifer) Strong, of Suttons, and Jack W. “Little Cuz” (Cynthia) Strong, Jr., of Andrews; two daughters, Sandra S. (David) Feagin, of Hebron, and Sheri S. (Randy) Taylor, of Bonneau; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy L. Cox, of Arizona; and her twin brother, William D. Leonard of Surfside Beach.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Suttons United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday evening at Williamsburg Funeral Home.
