Thelma Rogers, age 73, of Hemingway, S.C.

FUNERAL SERVICES

Sarah Bessellieu

Sarah Bessellieu, age 97, of Pawleys Island died on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at National Health Care Center in Murrells Inlet.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pawleys Island.

Visitation will take place on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wilds Courtyard Chapel and the remains will lie in state at the sanctuary of the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. Bessellieu was born December 26, 1916 in Pawleys Island.

A daughter of Mr. Esau Point and Mrs. Laura Brown Point (both deceased).

Survivors Include her children, Leroy P. Bessellieu of LongBeach, Calif., Esau Bessellieu, and Wilhelmenia B. Jenkins, both of Pawleys Island, Verlily A. Smith of Anniston, Ala., and Ozella A Rose of Seattle, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the building fund of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

Shirley Borowsky

Shirley Anne Walters Borowsky, age 70, wife of Arnold Louis Borowsky of Andrews, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, in Summerville.

Shirley was born in Kingstree on January 22, 1943, a daughter of the late Edgar

Beaufort Walters and Mary Nell Cox Walters.

She was a graduate of Andrews High School.

Shirley was employed by First Baptist Church School in Charleston for 29 years. After

Working at First Baptist, Shirley became a full-time grandmother.

She adored spending time with all of her family, but especially her grandkids, whom she spoiled all the time.

Shirley was an active member in her church and in her community. Her love for Christ is what she is remembered for most. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a daughter, Selina Borowsky; and three brothers, Edgar, Dale, and Charles Walters.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years of Andrews; two daughters, Karla Kaddas of Andrews and Heidi Carson (Jimmy) of Summerville; a son, Arnie Borowsky (Elizabeth) of

Andrews; and 10 grandchildren; Ilias, Micah, Nathan, Annaletta, Aaron, Emma, Hannah, Mary, Grace, and Levi.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 in First Baptist Church of Andrews.

Officiating will be the Rev. Donald P. Sapp. Burial will follow in Suttons United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Cox

Earl Bethel Cox, age 49, of Andrews died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, as a result of an automobile accident in Jasper, Ind.

Mr. Cox was born in Georgetown on February 7, 1964, a son of the late Willie Benjamin Cox and Lizzie Mae Alford Cox.

He grew up in the Warsaw community of Williamsburg County, graduated from Williamsburg High School, and received an Associate’s degree from Williamsburg Technical College.

Mr. Cox worked as a turbine generator repair technician for MDA Construction Company out of Wilmington, N.C.

He attended both Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church and Antioch Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Cox had a great love for fishing.

Surviving are three sons, Patrick Earl Cox (Whitney) of Andrews, Robert Clifton Cox of Florida and Jason Earl Nesbitt of Andrews; three grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Cox, Lilyana Reneé Cox, and Caiden Eli Cox; five brothers, Benjie Cox (Gere) and Elbert Cox (Diane), both of Pawleys Island, Ronnie Cox (Nina) and E.W. Cox (Tiarra), both of Andrews, and Danny Cox (Donna) of Georgetown; and two sisters, Connie Jo Lambert (Larry) of Andrews and Shirley Strickland (Genair) of Georgetown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2013, at Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronnie Cox, the Rev. Daniel Jackson, and the Rev. Chris Browder. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery.

George Hughes

George Quinton Hughes, age 78, of Hemingway, S.C. passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Hughes was born in Hemingway, S.C., a son of the late Connie Brown and Iva Verna Huggins Hughes.

He was the owner and operator of Hughes Hair Care for 56 years and also the owner and operator of Hughes Hand Crafted Trays and Leather Works for over 30 years.

He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and offices in the church. He was also a member of the Indiantown Masonic Lodge # 165.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine Miller Hughes; children, Chris (Dorinda) Hughes, Sonja L. Hughes and Paige (Rickey) Watford; brothers, Larry (Edna) Hughes and Noel (Joyce) Hughes; a sister, Romayne Eaddy; grandchildren, Garrett (Amy) Hughes, Katelynn Hughes, Meghan Hughes, J. D. Watford and Maddox Watford; and a great-grandson, Jaxson Hughes.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Randy Hughes.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, was in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at the church.

Bessie Marshall

Bessie Mae Etheridge Marshall, age 75, the widow of Robert Dudley Marshall, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Marshall was born the daughter of John McDaniel Etheridge and Dora Edna Morris Etheridge on April 8, 1938 in Williamsburg County.

She was a member of the Mount Castle Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Mrs. Marshall committed her life to acts of selfless giving for her family and gave an unconditional love to earn her the distinguished title – Beloved Mother

She leaves behind two children, Keith (Melissa) Marshall and Rose Marshall; two grandchildren, Storm (Johnathon) Martin and Brooke Marshall; two great-grandsons, Mason and Noah.

She also leaves behind an extended family including: a sister-in-law, Irene Etheridge Gibson; and a special niece, Daisy Norris.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and a son, Kenneth Chris Etheridge; two brothers, Junior Mac Etheridge and Charlie Franklin Etheridge; and two sisters, Dora Eunice Etheridge and Bertha Lee E. Cribb.

A Graveside Service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at the Piney Forest Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation was from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at the Andrews Chapel.

Susan Moultrie

Susan Moultrie, age 76, of Georgetown died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2013 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at St. Stephen A.M.E. church.

Burial will follow in St. Michael AME Church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at St. Michael A.M.E. church.

Mrs. Moultrie was born on Nov. 2, 1937 a daughter of Rev. Andrew Brave Sr. and Mrs. Mary Jane Richardson Brave, both deceased.

Her survivors include her children, Samuel C. Moultrie and Lunda Green, both of Georgetown, Marvin Dease, and Julia Tillman, both of Columbia, S.C., and Tracey Moultrie of Houston, Texas; her siblings, Andrew Brave White Plaines, N.Y., Joseph Brave and Alberta McCray, both of Georgetown, Pearline Boswell of Camden, S.C., and Landy L Maxwell of Tuskegee Ala.

Jean Owens

Jean Marie Henne Owens, age 59, of Andrews, the widow of Carl Owens, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, Dec. 22, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Owens was born the daughter of Edward Henry Henne and Shirley Jean Woolman Hess-Watson on December 22, 1954 in Poughkeepise, N.Y. She was the owner of Jean Owens Painting.

She leaves behind a daughter, Crystal O. (Brian) McCutcheon; two grandsons, Eric and Trey; three stepchildren, Sharon (Allen) Thomas, Charlene (Scott) Carroll, and Pam (Reggie) Amerson; six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Edward John (Pamela) Henne; a sister, Mary Ellen H. (Joe) Frechette; and her dearest friend, Roberta Jones and God-son, Phillip Jones.

She was predeceased by her husband; and her former companion, Farrel Jones.

A Home Going Celebration will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at the Saints Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Interment will follow in the Ivey Cemetery, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening, Dec. 26, 2013 at the Andrews Chapel.

Katie Rogers

Katie Turner Rogers, age 86, of Georgetown died on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Bethel A.M.E. Church. The remains will lie in state in the sanctuary of the church on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 from noon until time of service.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Rogers was born on April 29, 1927, a daughter of Mr. Mosser Turner and Mrs. Mary Jane Jenrette (both deceased).

Survivors include her children, Carolyn White and Jenetta Canteen, both of Georgetown, Christina Williams of Charleston, S.C., and William Earl Rogers of Calabash, N.C.; and one sister, Frances Geathers of Willmington, N.C.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

Samuel Vereen Jr.

Samuel Gordon Vereen Jr., age 75, of Socastee passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Son of the late Samuel G. Vereen Sr. and Lula Fulton Vereen, Mr. Vereen was born in Horry County on Sept. 18, 1938 and grew up in Murrells Inlet.

He graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1956 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Vereen was the owner and operator of The Wayside Restaurant from 1963 to 1983.

He was also an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Gray Vereen; a brother, David Vereen (Pat) of Murrells Inlet; a daughter, Karen Sullivan (Bill) of Santee, S.C.; sons, Russell A. Vereen (Karen) of Litchfield, S.C. and Steven C. Vereen (Denise) of Murrells Inlet; three step-daughters, Angela Ham (Stephen) of Florence, S.C., Andrea Sells (George) of King, N.C.; Sarah Ellen Buffkin of Conway; and nine adoring grandchildren.

Services will be announced at a later date.
