Warriors sweep tri-match

Waccamaw High's wrestling team dominated Timberland and held off Myrtle Beach at a tri-match on Dec. 17.
The Warriors beat the Wolves 45-18.
Bobby Walters, Arman Singh, Connor Summer, Parker Williams and Alonzo Trent won by pin, Shea Burke won on points, and Gabe Pope and Tyler Davis won by forfeit.
The Seahawks took an early 18-12 lead over the Warriors, but Davis won on points to narrow the gap to 18-15, and Lee won by pin to give the Warriors a 21-18 lead.
The teams exchanged forfeits to 27-24, and then Walters and Singh won by pin to put the Warriors ahead 39-24.
Myrtle Beach won the next two matches to cut the lead to 39-33 going into the last match.
Burke pinned his opponent at 152 pounds to give the Warriors the 45-33 victory.
Waccamaw coach Scott Cook called Burke, Summer and Williams his “anchors.”
The Warriors improved to 9-8 on the season.
Cook said the Warriors have been giving up two or three forfeits in every match, costing them victories.

Georgetown

Georgetown fell to region rival Socastee at a quad match on Dec. 17.
The Braves quickly jumped out to a 18-0 lead, pinning the Bulldogs early in the first period in the first three matches.
Georgetown got on the board when Ammel Dooley got a pin in the first period to cut the lead to 18-6.
Socastee won the next five matches to go ahead 47-6, but forfeited at 145 pounds to make the score 47-12.
After three more Braves' victories, Georgetown's Darrell got a pin at 180 pounds for the 61-18 final.
Georgetownalso beat North Charleston 56-21 and fell to Lake City 56-24.
Wrestlers picking up wins against North Charleston were: Jarrett Huneault, Nick Cooper, Ammel Dooley, Al Mazone, Josh Cooper, Eric Techer, Jordan Manigault, Jamal Lang, Gerald German and Landon Small. Brian Cumbie, Dooley, Cooper and Mazone had wins against Lake City.
