Henry Byrd Jr.

Henry Byrd Jr., age 62, of Andrews passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.

Mr. Byrd was born in Louisville, Ga. on Nov. 26, 1951, a son of Henry Byrd Sr. (deceased) and Ora Byrd.

After graduating from Jefferson County High School, Mr. Byrd attended and graduated from Saint Augustine’s College, in Raleigh, NC. He was a lifetime member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He was employed over 25 years by the state of South Carolina.

He is survived by his son, Andre’ Byrd; a daughter, Alaina Byrd; a wife, Linda Mack Byrd; his mother, Ora Byrd; five sisters; and one brother.

Memorial services are to be arranged.

Murphy Cooper

Murphy E. Cooper, age 79, husband of Virginia L. Cooper, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at his home.

Born on April 4, 1934, in Andrews, he was a son of the late John T. Cooper and the late Annie M. Davis Cooper.

Mr. Cooper attended First Assembly of God and enjoyed building boats, restoring old cars and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years; a sister in law, Alice Cooper of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; and four brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at First Assembly of God, with Rev. David Hoskins and Rev. Geary Blakeley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First Assembly of God Food Bank, PO Box 1627, Georgetown, SC 29442 or to a family in need.

Mary Dennison

Mary Dennison, age 84, of the Plantersville section of Georgetown died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Bethel A.M.E. church, conducted by the Rev. John Sumpter. Burial will follow in Bethel A.M.E. church cemetery.

The remains will lie in state in the sanctuary of the church on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Mrs. Dennison was born on December 20, 1928 a daughter of James and Ida Milton (both deceased).

Survivors include one daughter, Ernestine Bryant of Georgetown; her siblings, Clarence Milton of New Haven, Conn., Martha Logan and Brenda Milton, both of Columbia, S.C., Phyllis Milton of Green Sea, S.C., and Rebecca Milton of Georgetown.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home.

Dorma Hamilton

Dorma Hamilton, age 79, of the North Santee section of Georgetown died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

Burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, S.C. The remains will lie in state at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Mrs. Hamilton was born on December 21, 1933, a daughter of Tommy Washington and Lena Chatman (both deceased).

Until her retirement she was employed with the New York State Board of Education.

Survivors include her children, Mr. Luther Baxley of Wilmington, N.C., Lamel Hamilton of Connecticut, Rashawn Hamilton and Christopher Hamilton, both of Greensboro, N.C., Walisha Hamilton, Shaquana Hamilton, and Naisha Hamilton, all of Jacksonville, N.C.; and one sister, Bertha Smith of Queens, N.Y.

Funeral Service are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home.

Lula Smith

Lula Smith, age 77, formerly of New York, died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at St. Stephen A.M.E. Church conducted by the Rev. Carl L Anderson.

Burial will follow immediately at Morning Glory cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.

Mrs. Smith was born on Dec. 29, 1935 a daughter of Harry Smith and Lucille Stewart Smith (both deceased).

Survivors include a son, Lavern Smith of Georgetown; her siblings, Harold Smith and Rodney Smith, both of Georgetown; and Dennis Smith of Panama City, Fla.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home .

Joe Thomas

Joe Amos Thomas, age 46, of the Plantersville section of Georgetown died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Joe Amos Thomas will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.

The remains will lie in state at Wilds Courtyard Chapel from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. Thomas was born on Jan. 1, 1967 a son of Mrs. Angie Lawrimore and Mr. Amos Sherman (deceased).

Until his demise he was employed with Fleming Construction.

Survivors include his mother Angie Lawrimore of Conway, S.C.; his wife, Jessie Thomas; his children, Shanquilla Vandeross and Joseph Thomas, both of Georgetown; his siblings, Richard Thomas of Bucksport, S.C., Andre Johnson of Columbia, S.C., James Lawrimore , Yolanda Grace and Andrina Sanders, all of Conway, S.C., Shanda Johnson and Vonda Johnson, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home.
