Waccamaw and Georgetown High's wrestling team opened the season Monday night with a quad match that also featured St. James and Cross.
The Warriors gave up 24 points on forfeits and fell in a very close match with St. James 42-33.
Waccamaw then beat Cross 42-24 and Georgetown 66-12.
Jeremy Lee, Gabe Pope, Bobby Walters, Arman Singh and Conner Summer all won all three of their matches, with Walters and Lee recording three pins.
Georgetown also fell to St. James (66-13), but held off Cross 42-36.
“This is a rebuilding year for our team,” said Bulldogs coach Shawn Kosienski. “We had tough matches versus Waccamaw and St. James, but given that we only had three returning wrestlers in the lineup, we wrestled well. I am proud of how they wrestled considering most of them have never wrestled in a dual meet. We have a core group of young guys that have a strong work ethic and drive, and I feel that in time we have the potential to grow into a competitive team.”
