A fire Monday morning destroyed a large portion of a Pawleys Island business.
Midway Fire Rescue reported flames and heavy smoke were coming from the roof of Cohen Drywall on Petigru Road when they arrived on the scene at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Midway Fire Chief Doug Eggiman said the fire was under control by 10:30 a.m. but because of the vast amount of insulation and sheetrock in the facility, crews remained on the scene much of the day Monday extinguishing hot spots.
About half of the building was saved from serious damage, Eggiman said.
Most of the damage was in front areas of the building.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Eggiman.
Because of the size of the fire, Midway was assisted by firefighters from the City of Georgetown as well as Georgetown County, Murrells Inlet-Garden City and Horry County,
