Two Georgetown men have been sentenced to prison after being found guilty on drug charges in Circuit Court.

Last week, 63-year--old Robert Jenkins was found guilty of possession of heroin, third offense. He was sentenced to five years by Judge Lee Alford.

Previously, 56-year-old Franklin Dennison was found guilty of possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, second offense. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Judge Edward Cottingham.

The charges stem from a Sept. 24, 2011 traffic stop conducted by a Georgetown Police officer.

According to Deputy Solicitor Alicia Richardson, who prosecuted both cases, the officer initiated the traffic stop after seeing a drug transaction take place.

Richardson said Dennison failed to comply with the officer and ran from the vehicle. He was quickly caught by another officer.

Dennison was in possession of a bottle containing crack cocaine, Richardson said.

Jenkins, a passenger in the vehicle, was seen removing two small bottles of heroin from his mouth. He threw them on the ground, said Richardson.
