There has been a hydrochloric explosion at 3V Chemical Co. off of Pennyroyal Road.

The explosion was called in to Central Dispatch by a guard at 9 p.m.

One person was reportedly injured. According to reports from the scene, the man was blown four floors down an elevator shaft as a result of the explosion. Some sort of metal object reportedly caused a severe leg injury.

Georgetown County firefighters, EMS, and Georgetown City Fire responded to the scene.

By 9:20 p.m. the patient had been freed from the shaft but the chemical fumes was starting to get too strong for rescue workers so they placed the man on a backboard and walked him out.
