Pawleys Island Median project is huge improvement

  • Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Hello, I am writing concerning the median plan for Pawleys Island. As you are likely aware, there is an organized effort underway (the Citizens Coalition for Ocean Highway) to have Georgetown County and the state Department of Transportation to reconsider the plan to modify the current median characteristics along U.S. Highway 17 in Pawleys Island.

I believe that I am typical of the silent majority that recognizes that the planned changes that SC DOT proposed and budgeted for the median are a huge and necessary safety improvement. Please do not be swayed by the Coalition’s vocalization of poor landscaping, large vehicle turn problems, business falloff, etc.

In these economic times, it is understandable that businesses are hyper-sensitive about any perceived negative impact on profits. These concerns will evaporate over time as people adjust to different and safer traffic patterns and merchants along U.S. 17 thrive and accommodate customers.

Please continue with your current plan for a more safe Pawleys Island and realize that most travelers and residents strongly look forward to the new median and support you. Thank You,

Letty M. Grayson
