Still no SLED report released on cause of Front Street fire

  • Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Times File Photo Investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division and federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms gathered evidence when S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley came to Georgetown the day after the Front Street fire. No cause has yet been released.

The cause of the Sept. 25 fire in the 700 block of Front Street in Georgetown has still not been released and no time frame has been given on when investigators will make their findings public.
Thom Berry, spokesman for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, told the Georgetown Times Tuesday the investigation “is still open and ongoing.”
No other details were released.
Georgetown Fire Chief Joey Tanner said he “is surprised” the report has not been released. He said SLED asked for and received copies of reports from his department and the Georgetown Police Department a couple of weeks ago. He said that is usually the last request that is made before a SLED investigation is complete.
“They do have a lot of processes they have to go through,” Tanner said.
