A Georgetown County deputy responding to a call was involved in an automobile accident Wednesday morning.
According to information released by the S.C. Highway Patrol Thursday, the accident happened at the intersection of Maple and Main Streets in Andrews.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said a 32-year-old woman was driving a Suzuki and was attempting to make a left-hand turn.
Deputy Dawud Aswad was responding to a “serious call” and had his blue lights and siren activated, Collins said.
Aswad attempted to drive around the woman and struck her vehicle as she was trying to make the turn.
Both Aswad and the woman were taken to the hospital to be treated. Collins was unsure of the severity of the injuries.
Collins said Aswad was found to be at fault but will not be charged because he was responding to a call when the accident occurred.
