Georgetown City Fire Chief Joey Tanner has been given permission by City Council to seek any available grants to purchase a new fire boat.
If purchased the new fire fighting tool may be purchased as a joint effort between the City Fire Department, Georgetown County Fire and Midway Fire.
Tanner said federal grants are available - possibly through Homeland Security since Georgetown has a federal port.
The City does have a fire boat but it has manly been used to extinguish boat fires. It was not adequate for fires like the one that occurred Sept. 25 on Front Street.
