A man who was reportedly involved in two accidents Monday remains in jail, charged with multiple offenses.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said the suspect is identified as 32-year-old Jarod Dixon of Georgetown.
Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown said Dixon was involved in a minor accident on Highmarket Street at about 3:30 p.m. Monday and fled from the scene.
An officer spotted Dixon’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on South Fraser Street. Dixon did not pull over and a chase began that reached speeds of 60-65 mph, Brown said.
Collins said when the driver reached Industrial Drive, he lost control of his car and crossed the median. He then struck a utility pole.
Dixon was wearing a seat belt so he escaped with minor injuries.
He is charged with driving under the influence, having an open container, driving under suspension, failure to stop for a blue light and hit and run, according to jail records.
The jail records also indicate Dixon was out of jail on bond because of an Aug. 26 arrest in which he was charged with having and open container, reckless driving, having drug paraphernalia and other offenses.
