Front Street merchants gear up for big holiday season

Christmas is coming to Front Street in a big way this year.
As the merchants whose businesses were not damaged by the Front Street fire on Sept. 25  work to make sure everyone knows most of the Downtown area is up and running, they gathered this week to come up with ways to get that message out.
They decided a series of special events – most tied in with the upcoming holiday season – should be a big boost to the area.
Dr. Peter Mitchell, a retired president of three colleges, moderated the meeting.
In his opening remarks, Mitchell said the fire “will be a defining moment for our town and is people.”
The goal of the meeting was to come up with 10 good ideas to attract more customers to Front Street. The left with 14 plans.
The following is the events scheduled to take place before Christmas:
• Kaminski House 40th Anniversary Celebration with music and refreshments. Oct. 26.
• Taste of Georgetown: Nov. 2
• Georgetown Rocks (Rocking chairs outside businesses to create a relaxing ambiance): In November.
• Front Street businesses open on Sundays in November and December from noon – 4 p.m.
• Entertainment every Saturday and Sunday in November and December from 2-3:30 p.m. Church choirs, school groups, individual entertainers, etc.
