Thursday is final day of 24/7 police protection at Front Street fire scene

  • Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Tomorrow will be the final day the fire scene in the 700 block of Front Street will be guarded by the Georgetown Police Department. Since the Sept. 25 fire, the scene has been under 24-hour surveillance by police on the scene. City Administrator Chris Carter said police have been providing the security “because they have the understanding there are valuable items yet to be taken from the site.” Carter said the fence around the properties is a great deterrent but those sites are not totally secure. He said the property owners were told they have until 6 p.m. Thursday to remove valuables from the sites because after that time the constant police protection will be discontinued, although routine patrols will take place.
