A man who allegedly broke into a home in a rural area of Georgetown County must have thought no one would look for him under a bed.
Because that is where he was hiding, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson.
She said deputies received a call from a concerned citizen at about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday about a burglary in progress at a home on Hannah Loop.
The homeowners were out of town so the caller knew there was not supposed to be anyone in the house.
Deputies entered the house “and after a protective sweep located the suspect hiding underneath a bed,” Cuthbertson states.
She said 25-year-old Marquell Weaver of 1708 Aulden Drive, Lot 7 in Johnsonville was arrested without incident.
He is charged with First Degree Burglary and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools.
Weaver is being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Jewelry store theft
The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying whoever burglarized Christopher's Fine Jewelry at 11412 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island.
Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson said it happened at about 4 a.m. Thursday.
She said deputies responded to an alarm activation. They saw one of the front doors had been shattered.
After a sweep of the location and the perimeter, it was determined two glass cases had been damaged.
An undisclosed amount of jewelry was discovered missing.
Anyone that can identify the suspect(s) or has any information regarding the burglary is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 546-5101.
Who's been sleeping in my bed?
A woman who owns a home in the 600 block of Martin Street said she thinks someone has been sleeping in the house at night.
She said she has found cigarettes and other items that do not belong to her.
The woman said it may be a homeless person trespassing in the house and she asked for extra patrols in the area.
Unwanted lengthy texts
A man from Pembroke Lane said a woman who was arrested for unlawful use of a telephone has started texting him again. One of the texts was broken up into 27 parts and another into six parts.
Because the texts were sent from an unknown number, there is no proof the woman was actually the one who sent them so no charges were filed.
A 16-year-old Waccamaw High student said someone stole his “Beats” headphones from his backpack Oct. 14.
He said the headphones were taken while he was in second period.
His classmates were questioned and they all said they have no knowledge of the thefts.
Stolen golf cart found
A golf cart was taken from the Founders Club in Pawleys Island Oct. 15 but it was recovered.
Workers said someone broke into the golf cart barn and took the vehicle.
It was found in the parking lot of Motel 6, across from the Founders Club.
