A Green Acres Mobile Home Park couple have been arrested in connection with a child sexual assault case being investigated by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
Leopold Esteban-Rodriguez, 32, is charged with four counts Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor, First Degree. Jennifer Smith, 25, is charged with Unlawful Neglect of Child or Helpless Person by Legal Custodian.
According to an incident report, a deputy spoke with a man who said he believed his 3-year-old daughter “may have been sexually assaulted” by Esteban-Rodriguez.
The complainant said the girl told her grandmother she was having pain in her private area and then told her she had been assaulted by Esteban-Rodriguez, the report states.
Another child said he had told Smith what had happened to the girl but she “would not believe him or do anything about it,” the report states.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson said a follow-up investigation resulted in the arrest of Esteban-Rodriguez and Smith.
Esteban-Rodriguez remained in jail Tuesday. No bail has been set. Smith was released from jail Sunday under a $10,000 bond.
