Mother nature is being blamed for a fire that damaged apartments inside Litchfield by the Sea this week.
The fires began at about 3 a.m. Monday in units 62 and 63 at 163 Heron Marsh Drive.
Both units were believed to be empty when the fire began, according to Midway Fire Rescue spokesman Bob Beebe.
On Wednesday, Beebe said an investigation by the fire marshal indicates the fire began by natural causes.
He said lightning that was in the area as a cell of storms moved across the Waccamaw Neck ignited the blaze.
