FUNERAL SERVICES

Marvin Herschberg


Marvin Leo Herschberg, 73, of Vero Beach, Florida and previously of Pawleys Island, S.C. and South Padre Island, Texas died on March 7, 2013 after a long battle with leukemia.
A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery and Chapel in Conway, S.C.
He was born in New York City, N.Y. on July 8, 1939 and graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School and continued on to receive a bachelorís degree in psychology from Long Island University and a masterís degree in social work from Adelphi University.
He was married to Elyse Diane (diAnn) Herschberg on July 31, 1976 and was a loyal companion, best friend, and faithful husband to her for over 36 years.
Mr. Herschberg worked as a hospital administrator for many different hospitals over the years and in many different states, including New York, New Jersey, and California. †
He also served as administrator in Retirement Living campuses in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. †
After his retirement, he earned his Realtorís license and enjoyed a second career in real estate. †
Mr. Herschberg also provided social work services after his retirement both as a consultant for the Department of Social Services, as a volunteer grief counselor and in the local soup kitchen.
Throughout his career, he was driven to provide the best level of service to his staff or his clients.
The Herschbergs are former members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Port Isabel, Texas and Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, Pawleys Island. †
They are currently members of Saint Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Fla.
He is survived by his wife diAnn; his brother Seymour (Phyllis) Herschberg; his five children, Todd (Wendy) Herschberg of California, Debra (Phil) Holder of California, Tiffany (Tim VanDenBerg) Rushton of South Carolina, Lindsey (Joel) Billings of South Carolina, and Greg (Tricia) Rushton of Georgia; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Herschberg was a dedicated and loving father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lena Herschberg and his first wife, Ellen Brody Herschberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004.
The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses who have provided care and support for Marvin over the years as he fought leukemia and all of its complications. †
Special thanks to Dr. William McGarry and the nurses of 4 North and the Ambulatory Infusion unit of Indian River Medical Center.

Loretta Hunter

Loretta Susan Cooper Hunter, age 93, died at her residence on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Bethel AME Church.
Burial will follow in Morning Glory Cemetery.
A viewing will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Bethel AME Church.
Mrs. Hunter was born on January 8, 1920 in Georgetown, South Carolina, the youngest of 12 children to the marital union between Robert Cooper and Mrs. Mary Scott Cooper.
She graduated from Howard High School and shortly afterwards went to Miami, Fla. †
It was there that she met Clifton DeWitt Hunter (now deceased) whom she later married.
She was the beloved mother to their six children and to a number of adopted nieces and nephews.
A lifelong member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Mrs. Hunter served as member of the Senior Missionary Society, Stewardess Board No. 1, and the Pastorís Aide Board.
Surviving are her children, Patricia Hunter and Gregory Hunter, Detroit, Mich., Priscilla Yvonne Hunter, Columbia, S.C., Clifton Hunter Jr., Georgetown, Ronald J. Hunter, Durham, N.C., and Bernard Hunter, Virginia Beach, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorethia Ladson

Dorethia Ann Deas Ladson, 72, of the Plantersville Community, Georgetown, S.C., died on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Self Regional Hospital, Greenwood, S.C.† †
Mrs. Ladson attended the public schools of Georgetown County and furthered her education at Benedict College, Columbia, S.C. and South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, S.C. †
For more than 30 years she taught school at Deep Creek Elementary in the Pleasant Hill community.
She was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was active in a variety of† organizations.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Plantersville Community where Rev. James Carraway is pastor. †
The eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Joseph Caldwell, pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church of Greenwood. †
Burial follows at the Mt. Carmelís cemetery.
Viewing is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Surviving are her husband, Abie Ladson and their children, Ms. Anna Melissa Ladson, Atlanta, Ga., Abie Lavern Ladson, Evans, Ga., and Mrs. Shonnie S. Greene, Greenwood, S.C.; and her brothers and sisters, Joe Nathan Elder, John Henry Elder, Robert Elder, Mrs. Susan Richardson and Mrs. Lillian McCray, all of Georgetown, Rev. Dr. Eunice Tucker, Elder Louise Blake, Elder Mary Brown, Mrs. Verlie Edwards, Ms. Vivian Elder, and Elder Arline Henry, all of New Haven, Conn., Luke Beauford, Raleigh, N.C., and Arthur Beauford, Wampee, S.C.
Funeral service arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

Barbara Wilson

Barbara Wilson, 56, of Pawleys Island, S.C. died on March 2, 2013. †
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel, conducted by Rev. Johnie Ford with burial following at Morning Glory Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was born on May 25, 1956 in Georgetown, S.C. to Fredrick Grate and Mrs. Lucinda Sherman Grate. †
She was educated in Georgetown County public schools and worked as a housekeeper and cook.
Survivors include her children, Ms. Barbara Grate and Ms. Victoria Grate, both of Columbia, S.C., Nathaniel Grate of Florence, S.C.; two aunts, Mrs. Lucille S. Grate and Mrs. Anna Bell Washington, both of Pawleys Island, S.C.
Funeral service arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
