The Georgetown Police Department has charged two people after an incident involving gunfire that occurred Thursday afternoon.
Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown says it happened at about 3 p.m. at the intersection of North Congdon and Duke Street.
“An altercation took place between five individuals and one of the individuals fired a handgun twice,” he said.
Three suspects fled the scene but were pulled over on Highway 17 near MLK Drive in Pawleys Island. Witnesses said they were removed from the car at gunpoint. The police activity resulted in a traffic delay for motorists for a period.
“No one was struck with a bullet.,” Brown said.
He said Joseph L. Allen of 348 Whites Creek Road has been charged with Assault and Battery 1st Degree and Assault and Battery 2nd Degree.
Also charged was Jimmy Dale Cagle of 229 Tail Water Trail. He is charged with Assault and Battery 1st Degree and Assault and Battery 2nd Degree.
They have been lodged in the Georgetown County Detention Center. Allen and Cagle will have a bond hearing on Friday.
