Horry County police were called to a situation with a woman barricaded inside an apartment in Garden City Tuesday morning.
According to Lt. Robert Kegler, reports of shots being fired were heard inside the apartment and a woman barricaded herself inside.
Police were called to the scene before 7 a.m.
When police entered the building they found a woman dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Kegler said.
The apartment is located on Pathfinder Way just off the Garden City Connector.
The Garden City Connector was closed to traffic from US 17 Bypass due to the incident, but has since been re-opened.
