A 25-year-old Maryville woman remained hospitalized Tuesday, two days after she was beaten and shot inside an apartment on Lincoln Street.
Police were called to the Georgetown Landing apartment at about 5:25 a.m. Sunday.
According to an incident report, when the first officer arrived he saw the door was open and he could hear the victim inside yelling.
She was on a bed bleeding severely and being attended to by another woman.
That woman said there was a loud knock on the door from someone who identified themselves as being from the Sheriff’s Office.
The man forced his way inside, grabbed the victim and asked her where the money was located, the witness reportedly told officers.
The man forced the witness on the ground then started beating the victim in the face with an unknown object, the report states.
Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown said the woman was shot in the chest before the suspect fled.
He said there “may be some relationship” between the suspect and victim.
“She was the intended target,” he said.
Anyone with any information that may help police find the suspect is urged to call police at 545-4300 or 911.
