Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested man on drug charges following  a  stop this week.
While deputies were speaking with the driver a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Due to the fact the passenger, Grant, appeared to be concealing his identity with his hat, he was asked to exit the vehicle. As the narcotics K9 was approaching the vehicle, the passenger fled into the woods. Sheriff’s deputies pursued the suspect into the woods where he was taken into custody, Cuthbertson wrote in a press release.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed plastic bags of green leafy substance (approx. 114.8 g), two baggies of off-white rocklike substance (approx. 1.8 g), a clear plastic bag of white powder (approx. 4.7 g) and $7,154.00.
Grant was taken into custody and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute (PWID) Cocaine Base Second Offense, PWID Marijuana, PWID Cocaine Second Offense, Hindering and Obstructing Law Enforcement, False Information to Police, and Drug Paraphernalia. Grant was transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
The driver was issued a speeding ticket and released.
