The Georgetown Business Association (GBA) has a $297,000 budget to work with in 2013.
While most of the money is used to purchase a wide array of advertising to promote the City of Georgetown, GBA board members say one of their most powerful tools is their website — and it is in need of a major overhaul.
At a GBA board meeting this week, chairman Al Joseph said he is not pleased with the GBA website.
He said it not only has been down quite often, it has been hacked and, for a short while, it was redirecting users to a porn site.
Joseph said CASE Solutions of Pawleys Island — the advertising agency in charge of the ad campaign — was paid to create the GBA website but is not being paid for its maintenance.
“When it was first set up, the GBA said it did not want CASE to manage it. The problems are our own fault,” Joseph said, adding the website is a “powerful tool” that needs to be maintained and updated regularly.
It was decided board members Rod Stalvey and Marty Alfonsi will take over the website and will solicit bids from Georgetown vendors to keep it maintained and updated.
