Tragedy struck an Andrews family Tuesday when a 3-year-old girl drowned in a family swimming pool.
Georgetown County Assistant Coroner Chase Ridgeway identified the child as Sophia Freeman.
She was found in a swimming pool and efforts to revive the child began.
According to Georgetown County Fire and EMS Assistant Chief Tony Hucks, EMS was dispatched at 2:46 p.m. The ambulance arrived at the home in the 500 block of Hazel Ave. at 3:03 p.m.
As of 6:40 p.m., the Andrews Police Department was still investigating how the girl ended up in the pool. Initial reports indicated she climbed out of a window of the home.
Ridgeway said there is no reason to suspect foul play.
CPR was being performed on Freeman before EMS arrived and continued in the ambulance en route to Georgetown Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It is the first drowning reported in Georgetown County since October, 2011.
