Erin Spatz: The craziest of days

Today was the craziest day ever!

I woke up at the usual time and started getting ready for work.
I woke up the kids, fed them breakfast, and the morning chatting began. Denver said “This is going to be the best day ever!
We are having a feast and it’s only a half day.”

I said “What?” This news was brand new to me!
I had completely forgotten that today was a half day and I had made ZERO arrangements for where the kids would go after early dismissal.
To add insult to injury, I had put my phone on the roof of my car and drove off, successfully losing my phone on Highway 707.
Which meant I had no way to call any baby sitters or figure out what I was going to do.

Yikes!
I sent the older kids off to their half day without a real plan as to what would happen at the end of their day.
I drove Chandler to school and discovered that she too, would have an unusual day in which she would be done early.
I mean are you kidding me?! Really?

Still, no plan and no way to get a hold of Eric to figure out what we are going to do. I got to work and finally tried to formulate a plan.

Who will he get?

Who will I get?

And where will they go?

Eric went to get Chandler, and at the great age of four she went to her first Rotary Club meeting. Whether or not she got anything out of it I’m not too sure, but it’s never too early to begin community service.

I was able to leave work for an hour to get the other kids, because I have the best boss ever! I quickly drove them through Chick-fil-A for lunch, and thankfully my parents have just moved here so I was able to drop them off with my Dad, aka “Pops.” After the Rotary Club meeting, Chandler also got to hang out with Pops.

I am grateful to say that we pretty much made it to the end of our day without trauma ... mostly. It is surely a day that will end with a deep sigh as I sink into the sofa and process the fact that it is only Tuesday. I will try to channel my inner “Little engine that could” and do it again tomorrow. Hopefully I will be better prepared.
