Erin Spatz: Hanging on by a thread

  • Tuesday, May 28, 2013

I know itís not polite to compliment yourself or point out your best feature, but brace yourself I am about to compliment myself ...
I have great hair. Thatís right I said it.† I have amazing hair.
I am somewhere in my 30s†† and I have yet to find a gray hair.
In fact my hair stylist, Devon wonít let me even highlight my hair until I have more than five gray hairs.
I asked what I was supposed to do if I found one and she said to us a Sharpie.
Currently, I am growing out my hair to donate to Locks of Love.
I love the idea of being able to give in such a tangible way.
Devon Spires of Devonís salon in Pawleys Island is a big supporter of donating hair and she has done this herself.
It doesnít cost me anything and it doesnít hurt so why not?
And, here is where my giving takes an ugly turn. If I find one gray hair the donation is over.
Thatís right, one gray hair and my gift is over.
I know that itís not nice but I have so few things left that are pre-kids.
No gray hair is one and the other is never having had a cavity.

I am literally hanging on by a thread here, people.
More accurately a hair.
The list of post kids is endless.
Flappy arms, under eye circles, and a bread dough tummy. So, Iím hanging on to all I can.
And if all I have is my hair, then I shall hang onto my gray-free hair with all my might.
I love my hair and I love my kids.
Clearly, I love my kids more than my hair, and giving up my hair for someone else who needs it is really what I want.
My gray-free hair reminds me of when I was younger, I donít feel 30ish on the inside.
And my hair is the one thing left that matches my inside to my outside.
Although I would trade my gray-free hair for my kids. I, would just have a really bad attitude about it.
